the big black bookbag
packed full from the shelf
titles tagged, pages marked
all arrows in one direction
the world's wisdom in certain words
recited, released and forgotten
is now breaking through my skin
shining out in all directions
as I count down the millennia
awaiting the next whim, and
study the landscape, watching
for new signs under heaven
2011
Sounds like a good place to be in, watching for new signs under heaven.
ReplyDelete"Good" is not really what I wanted to say. Exciting doesn't really cut it either -- I like where you're at and what this poem says. And great title!
ReplyDeleteThank you Chris! I had a religious upbringing which has given me a sense of hope and faith which I still carry. Over time I've wanted to let that sense of natural spirituality fill every corner of my canvas.
ReplyDeleteI'd say where I'm at now is an increased appreciation of creation, mixed with a stronger sense of my own smallness in the big picture. Plus a great spot on the planet to watch the future happen with the love of my life... I like where I'm 'at' too :)
